Fascia & Soffit Cleaning in Nottingham
Professional pure water cleaning that restores your uPVC fascias, soffits and bargeboards to white in a single visit. No bleach, no pressure washing, no streaks. We clean uPVC, painted wood, aluminium and composite — and bundle with gutter cleaning to save you money.
Fascia, Soffit, Bargeboard — What's What?
Most homeowners aren't sure which is which, and that's fine — you don't need to know the names to want them clean. But it helps when you're getting quotes, because some cleaners only do part of the job. Here's the short version:
- Fascia The vertical board running along the lower edge of your roof. Your gutter is bolted to it. It's the white (or wood-effect) line you see when you look at your house from the front.
- Soffit The horizontal board tucked underneath the fascia, facing downwards. You only see it when you look up at the eaves. Often has small ventilation grilles or slots.
- Bargeboard The angled board running up the gable end of the roof — the triangle shape at the side of the house. Functionally similar to a fascia but at an angle.
Stardust standard: we clean all three on every job. No "extra elevation" charges for bargeboards.
Why You Should Never Use Bleach on uPVC
Bleach is the single most common cause of permanent uPVC damage — and it's still recommended in DIY guides and used by some "professional" cleaners. Once it's happened, it can't be undone. After 25 years of fascia cleaning, here's what we've seen go wrong when bleach or pressure washing has been used:
- Permanent yellowing from bleach reacting with plasticizers in the uPVC
- Surface etching that makes future dirt cling more, not less
- Stripped UV protection on coloured or woodgrain effect uPVC
- Water forced behind boards from pressure washing, into roof timbers and insulation
- Broken clips and fixings from over-pressure on uPVC mountings
- Dislodged soffit boards on lighter installations not designed to take pressure
The right way: Pure water cleaning via water-fed pole. Pure water actively pulls dirt out of the surface and dries streak-free. For heavy soiling, we use uPVC-safe pre-treatments at the correct dilution — no bleach, no abrasives, no pressure washing.
Fascia & Soffit Cleaning Prices
Simple per-elevation pricing. Significant discount when bundled with gutter cleaning at the same visit.

💰 Bundle with Gutter Cleaning & Save
Black streaks on fascias are almost always caused by gutter overflow. Doing both at the same visit saves you money — and stops the streaks coming back. Ask for a bundle quote.
Materials We Clean
Different fascia and soffit materials need different approaches. Here's how we handle each.
uPVC (White)
Most common, post-1990
The standard modern fascia material across Nottingham. White uPVC is brilliant when clean but shows every black streak and algae spot. Pure water cleaning with uPVC-safe pre-treatment for heavy staining is the only correct method. Never bleach, never pressure wash.
Woodgrain & Coloured uPVC
Modern, decorative
Brown, anthracite, and woodgrain-effect uPVC has a printed top layer that's particularly vulnerable to bleach and abrasive cleaners. Even more reason for the pure water approach. We use only uPVC-safe products and very low contact pressure to preserve the finish.
Painted Wood
Pre-1990s & period
Original wooden fascias and soffits — common on Victorian and pre-1990s Nottingham properties. Need much gentler treatment than uPVC. We use very low water pressure and pH-neutral cleaners. We'll flag any rotten or peeling sections during inspection so you know what needs attention.
Aluminium
Modern, premium
Increasingly common on modern self-builds and high-end renovations. Powder-coated aluminium is durable but the coating can be damaged by abrasive cleaners. Pure water cleaning works brilliantly — the lack of detergent means no streaking on the smooth surface.
Composite
Modern hybrid
Composite fascia boards combine wood fibres with polymer for a wood look without the maintenance. Tougher than uPVC but the surface texture can hold dirt deeper. We use a soft brush on the water-fed pole to agitate the texture without scratching.
"Capped" Wood (uPVC over Wood)
Common 1990s update
Many Nottingham properties had original wood "capped" with uPVC in the 1990s — uPVC fitted over the existing wooden boards rather than full replacement. We treat these as uPVC for cleaning purposes, but watch for water ingress between the layers if there's any damage.
What's Actually on Your Fascias?
The dirty marks all look similar from the ground. Up close, they're different things — and each needs the right approach.
Black "Tiger Stripe" Streaks
Vertical black streaks below the gutter line. Caused by gutter overflow carrying atmospheric pollution down the fascia. Pre-treatment lifts them, but if the gutter isn't sorted, they return within months. We strongly recommend pairing with gutter cleaning.
Green Algae Patches
Especially on north-facing soffits and behind trees. Same algae that grows on render and roofs. Pure water with a soft brush head agitates and rinses it cleanly — no biocide needed for surface algae on uPVC.
Cobwebs & Vent Debris
Soffit vents are sheltered with constant airflow — perfect for spider webs. Hand-cleared as part of every job. Often the detail that lifts the result from "fairly clean" to "looks new".
Atmospheric Greying
Even if there are no obvious streaks, white uPVC slowly greys from atmospheric pollution and pollen — most noticeable when you put a clean section next to an uncleaned one. Pure water restores the original brightness.
Bird Droppings
Acidic and can etch uPVC if left long-term. We clean them off carefully and check whether there's an active nest behind the soffit (we don't disturb active nests in nesting season — that's illegal under the Wildlife Act).
Yellowing (Permanent)
UV-yellowed uPVC or bleach-damaged uPVC won't clean back to white — it's a chemical change in the plastic itself. We're upfront at quote stage about what's likely cleanable and what isn't, so there are no surprises.
How Pure Water Cleaning Works
It's not just "clean water". The chemistry of pure water is doing the work — here's how.
Why Pure Water Beats Tap Water & Detergent
Tap water in Nottingham contains dissolved minerals — calcium, magnesium, salts. When tap water dries on a surface, those minerals are left behind as the white chalky residue you see on car windows and shower screens. That's why traditional cleaning needs detergent and squeegeeing.
Pure water has all those minerals removed (deionised, zero Total Dissolved Solids). Because pure water is chemically "hungry", it actively pulls dirt out of the surface and then dries completely streak-free. No detergent residue, no chalky haze, no streaks.
Combined with a soft brush head on a telescopic carbon fibre pole, we can reach the apex of a standard 2-3 storey house from the ground — no ladders, no scaffolding, no risk to your property. It's the same technology professional window cleaners have used for the past 20 years.
Before & After: Real Fascia Cleans
Genuine results from Nottingham properties. White uPVC restored in a single visit.
Atmospheric Staining Lifted from uPVC Fascia & Soffit
Before
After
Same elevation, single visit. Atmospheric staining lifted from the full length of the fascia and soffit. Pre-treatment + pure water rinse, all from ground level.
Algae Lifted from Painted Wood Canopy — Without Damaging the Paintwork
Before
After
Painted wood porch canopy. Heavy green algae across the timber framing, V-truss and corbels. Cleaned with low-pressure pure water and a soft brush — no bleach, no scrubbing, paintwork intact. The architectural detail does the rest. See more transformations →

Stephen Fudge — Owner, Not a Subcontractor
I founded Stardust Cleaning Services in 2000, after years working as a Local Authority Cleaning Inspector. Fascia and soffit cleaning is one of the services where my inspector background really shows — I've seen what bleach does to uPVC and what pressure washers do to soffit fixings, and I've spent 25+ years using methods that actually work without damaging your property.
Every fascia clean is done by me personally. I identify the material, choose the chemistry, set up the pole, and oversee the work from start to finish. No subcontractors, no franchised teams. When you book Stardust, you get the same person whose name is on the business — and the same standards I've held myself to since day one.

Fascias on Nottingham Properties — What We See
25+ years working across Nottingham has taught us which fascia materials appear where, and how each weathers in our local climate.
Nottingham's housing stock spans every era of fascia material. The Victorian terraces in The Park Estate and Mapperley Park often retain original painted wooden fascias — sometimes capped with uPVC in the 1990s. Inter-war and 1960s estates across Arnold, Carlton and Gedling typically had wooden fascias originally, almost all now replaced with white uPVC. The post-2000 housing boom in Edwalton, Bingham and Radcliffe on Trent brought woodgrain and coloured uPVC, plus increasing aluminium on premium builds.
Each material has its own weathering pattern in Nottingham's wet, mild climate — and each needs the right approach. After 25 years cleaning fascias across the city, we know what to expect before we even arrive at your property.
White uPVC on Inter-War Semis
Arnold · Carlton · Gedling · Mapperley · West Bridgford
Classic 1990s-2000s replacement of original wooden fascias with white uPVC. Now 20-30 years old, showing atmospheric greying and tiger-stripe staining from leaking gutters. Pure water cleaning restores them to white in a single visit — and the gutter clean bundle stops the streaks coming back.
Coloured & Woodgrain uPVC on New-Builds
Edwalton · Bingham · Radcliffe on Trent · Tollerton · newer Beeston
Anthracite, brown and woodgrain effect uPVC on post-2000 developments. The decorative top layer is more vulnerable to bleach and abrasive cleaners than plain white. Pure water with uPVC-safe pre-treatment is essential — wrong chemistry permanently damages the finish.
Painted Wood on Period Properties
The Park · Mapperley Park · Lenton · older parts of Sherwood
Original wooden fascias on Victorian and Edwardian properties. Need much gentler treatment than uPVC — very low water pressure, soft brush, pH-neutral cleaner. We'll flag any rotten or peeling sections during inspection but don't repair or paint wood ourselves.
Capped Wood (uPVC over Original)
All over Nottingham — common 1990s update
Many properties had original wood "capped" with uPVC rather than fully replaced. Cleans like uPVC, but worth checking for any water ingress between the layers — visible as staining or movement in the boards. We flag concerns during inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions Nottingham homeowners ask most about fascia and soffit cleaning.
No — we never pressure wash fascias or soffits. High pressure forces water behind the boards into the roof timbers and insulation, can break uPVC clips and fixings, and can dislodge soffit boards which often aren't heavily fixed.
The right method is pure water cleaning via water-fed pole — gentle on the boards, hard on the dirt. If anyone offers to "jet wash" your fascias, walk away.
The fascia is the vertical board running along the lower edge of the roof — it's what your gutter is attached to and what you see from the front of the house.
The soffit is the horizontal board tucked underneath the fascia, facing downwards — the bit you see when you look up at the eaves.
The bargeboard is the angled board running up the gable ends of the roof — the triangle shape at the side of the house. We clean all three as standard on every job, with no extra "elevation" charges.
Fascia and soffit cleaning starts from £75 per elevation with a minimum charge of £100. A typical 3-bed semi (front and rear) costs £150-£200. A larger detached property with all four elevations costs £200-£300.
We provide free, fixed-price quotes — and significant discounts when bundled with gutter cleaning at the same visit.
Yellowing on uPVC is usually one of two things: UV damage from years of sun exposure, or chemical damage from the wrong cleaning products — bleach is the worst offender.
UV yellowing is permanent and no cleaner can reverse it. Chemical yellowing from bleach is also usually permanent. This is why we never use bleach on uPVC and use only pH-neutral or properly diluted uPVC-safe products.
Pure water cleaning uses deionised water with all minerals removed (zero Total Dissolved Solids). Because pure water is chemically "hungry", it actively pulls dirt out of surfaces and then dries streak-free — no chalky residue, no soap film.
Combined with a soft brush head on a telescopic pole, it cleans fascias and soffits up to around 12 metres without ladders. It's the same technology professional window cleaners have used for the past 20 years.
Most fascias and soffits benefit from cleaning every 12-18 months. Properties under trees, north-facing elevations, or homes near busy roads may need annual cleaning.
We often recommend pairing fascia cleaning with gutter cleaning at the same visit — gutter overflow is the main cause of black streaks down fascias, so doing both together makes sense and keeps results lasting longer.
No. Pure water cleaning is the gentlest professional method available — there's no chemical residue and no abrasive contact.
For heavy soiling we use uPVC-safe products at the correct dilution. We never use bleach, scouring agents, or anything that will damage the surface or accelerate UV yellowing.
Yes. Wooden fascias and soffits — common on Victorian and pre-1990s properties — need a gentler approach than uPVC. We use very low water pressure, soft brushes, and pH-neutral cleaners.
We'll also flag any rotten or peeling sections during inspection so you know what needs attention before painting. We don't repair or paint wood ourselves, but can recommend trusted local specialists.
Yes. Black streaks below gutters (sometimes called "tiger stripes") are caused by gutter overflow carrying atmospheric pollution down the fascia. Pre-treatment with a proper uPVC-safe cleaner followed by pure water rinse removes them.
But if your gutters are blocked or leaking, the streaks will return within months. That's why we strongly recommend pairing fascia cleaning with gutter cleaning — sort the cause as well as the symptom.
Soffit vents (the small grilles or slots in your soffit boards) attract spider webs, dust and insect debris because they're sheltered and have constant airflow.
We clear these as standard during every fascia and soffit clean — it's often the detail that takes a "fairly clean" result up to a "looks new" result.
It depends on the cause. Surface dirt, algae, atmospheric staining and black streaks all clean off well — often dramatically.
Permanent UV yellowing or yellowing from past bleach use cannot be cleaned away by anyone — that's a chemical change in the plastic itself, not a surface stain. We're upfront at quote stage about what's likely cleanable and what isn't.
Not necessarily. As long as we have access to all elevations and an outside tap to top up our pure water tank, you don't need to be present.
Most fascia cleans take 1-2 hours. We send before-and-after photos and can take payment by card or bank transfer when complete.
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. Black streaks on fascias are almost always caused by gutter overflow, so cleaning the fascia without sorting the gutter just means the streaks come back.
We offer a discounted rate when you book both services together. We can also clean the inside face of gutters at the same time for a more thorough finish.
We work from ground level using a water-fed pole system. We need clear access along all elevations — anything blocking us reaching the wall (storage, shrubs growing tight to the wall, parked vehicles) needs to be moved first.
Most jobs we can reach the apex of a standard 2-3 storey house from the ground without ladders or scaffolding.
Yes — we carry full public liability insurance for your peace of mind. Working at height (even with ground-based water-fed poles) carries some risk, and proper insurance is non-negotiable.
We're also DBS checked and have been operating in Nottingham since 2000.
