Nuthall is a village and civil parish in Broxtowe borough, approximately 4.5 miles northwest of Nottingham. With a population of 6,583 (2021 census), the village name derives from Old English meaning "nook where nuts grew" — reflecting its long history as a wooded area. Nuthall is famously positioned at M1 Junction 26, which opened in 1966 and transformed the village's character. The parish is split between Old Nuthall (Horsendale) and New Nuthall, which includes the 1960s-70s Cedarlands and Horsendale estates, plus the exclusive Mornington Crescent development from the late 1980s/early 1990s on the former Assarts Farm site.
Nuthall Temple (Lost)
Grand Palladian mansion built 1754-57 for Sir Charles Sedley, modelled on Palladio's Villa Capra. Demolished 1929 after failing to sell; ruins cleared 1966 for M1. Site now under Junction 26 slip road. Temple Drive commemorates its legacy.
