I'm Stephen — Former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector

Before starting Stardust Cleaning in 2000, I spent years inspecting cleaning contracts for local councils. I know exactly what "properly clean" looks like — because I used to fail contractors who didn't meet the standard.

That background means I hold every driveway clean to professional inspection standards. If it wouldn't pass my old checklist, we're not done.

I personally quote every Radcliffe job and oversee quality. When you call, you speak to me — not a call centre.

Why Radcliffe-on-Trent Driveways Get So Dirty

Radcliffe sits on the cliff above the south bank of the River Trent — the village name itself comes from the distinctive red Triassic Mercia Mudstone cliffs. That cliff-side, riverside position means properties experience persistent humidity and river mist, ideal conditions for moss, algae and lichen to colonise paving year-round.

Radcliffe is the largest village in this part of Rushcliffe (population 8,144 at the 2021 census), built across three merged historical settlements — Radcliffe, Lamcote and Harlequin — meaning we work on every era of driveway from period flagstones to Upper Saxondale's modern executive estates.

Mature tree cover throughout the older village core, particularly around Rockley Memorial Park and the Cliff Walk, drops organic debris that retains moisture year-round. Many post-1960s estate drives are now 50+ years old with significant joint sand loss, while railway-era Victorian villas have larger, more challenging driveways that need a careful approach.

Our Base: New Basford

From New Basford we head south through the city, over Trent Bridge, and east via the A52 — passing Trent Bridge cricket ground along Radcliffe Road into the village. Whether you're on Main Road, around St Mary's Church, in Lamcote, or in the Upper Saxondale estates, we know Radcliffe well.

Radcliffe Driveway Cleaning Questions

Got questions? Here are the things customers ask most often about driveway cleaning.

Can't find your answer?

Call or message us — we respond within 2 hours.

Driveway cleaning in Radcliffe-on-Trent is £4 per square metre with a £100 minimum charge that covers setup and travel. A typical 50m² driveway costs £200. Larger driveways at Victorian villas or in the newer Upper Saxondale developments are quoted accurately by m² with no hidden fees.

Radcliffe sits on the cliff above the south bank of the River Trent — properties experience higher humidity and river mist than inland villages, ideal conditions for moss, algae and lichen on paving. Mature tree cover throughout the older village core, especially around Rockley Memorial Park and the Cliff Walk, drops organic debris year-round. Many post-1960s estate drives now have decades of joint sand loss too.

Yes — and there's a fitting local connection: Tarmac itself was patented in 1902 by Nottinghamshire County Surveyor Edgar Purnell Hooley, with one of the earliest applications recorded on Radcliffe Road. Modern tarmac drives need careful pressure settings to avoid damaging the binder while still removing moss, algae and engine oil staining. We adjust accordingly.

Yes, re-sanding is available as an optional extra for block paving driveways. We use kiln-dried sand which helps stabilise the blocks and reduce weed growth. We recommend waiting 24 hours before driving on freshly re-sanded driveways.

Yes. We're experienced with Radcliffe's older properties around Main Road, the Lamcote area and the historic core near St Mary's Church. Many have original flagstones, period block paving or stone setts that need a careful, lower-pressure approach to avoid damaging soft mortar joints or pointing on Victorian and earlier properties.

Not necessarily. As long as we have access to your driveway and an outside tap, you don't need to be present. We'll send before and after photos so you can see the transformation.

A typical Radcliffe driveway (40-70m²) takes 2-4 hours depending on the level of soiling and surface type. Larger Victorian villa driveways from the railway era can take longer, as can substantial Upper Saxondale executive drives. Block paving with heavy moss growth always takes more time than lightly soiled concrete.

Yes. If you're not completely satisfied with any aspect of our driveway cleaning, we'll return and re-clean at no extra cost. We're also fully insured with £5 million public liability cover.

About Radcliffe-on-Trent

Radcliffe-on-Trent is a large village (now classified as a Town) located 6 miles east of Nottingham in the Borough of Rushcliffe, set on the cliff above the south bank of the River Trent. The 2021 census recorded a population of 8,144 — making it the largest village in this part of Rushcliffe. The settlement takes its name from the distinctive red cliffs formed of Triassic Mercia Mudstone with gypsum banding that overlook the Trent — the "Rad" element coming from the Old English rēad, meaning red. Modern Radcliffe originated as three separate settlements: Radcliffe and Lamcote (both recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 with 38 households between them) and the 19th-century settlement of Harlequin, which grew up around brick pits and horticultural greenhouses.

St Mary's Church

The Grade II listed parish church on Vicarage Lane, the historic spiritual heart of Radcliffe. Has a nave, chancel, tower with four bells, and a group of 99 listed headstones in the churchyard. Repaired and re-pewed in the 19th century.
