I'm Stephen — Former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector

Before starting Stardust Cleaning in 2000, I spent years inspecting cleaning contracts for local councils. I know exactly what "properly clean" looks like — because I used to fail contractors who didn't meet the standard.

That background means I hold every driveway clean to professional inspection standards. If it wouldn't pass my old checklist, we're not done.

I personally quote every Edwalton job and oversee quality. When you call, you speak to me — not a call centre.

Why Edwalton Driveways Get So Dirty

Edwalton's mature tree cover — particularly along the A606 Melton Road, around Holy Rood Church and the older village core on Village Street — drops significant organic debris that holds moisture year-round. Perfect conditions for moss, algae and lichen to colonise paving joints.

Edwalton has expanded rapidly — from 3,908 residents in 2011 to 5,774 in 2021. The new Sharphill Farm executive estates near the A52 are now 5-15 years old, with first-generation block paving showing early signs of joint sand loss and moss colonisation.

Established homes on Valley Road, Croft Road, Melton Road and Village Street often have substantial driveways approaching 20-30 years old with significant joint sand loss, opening gaps where weeds and moss take hold. Period properties around Holy Rood Church need a careful approach with original flagstones or soft mortar joints.

Driveway cleaning in Edwalton is £4 per square metre with a £100 minimum charge that covers setup and travel. A typical 50m² driveway costs £200. Larger driveways at properties on Valley Road, Melton Road or in the Sharphill Farm developments are quoted accurately by m² with no hidden fees.

Yes, re-sanding is available as an optional extra for block paving driveways. We use kiln-dried sand which helps stabilise the blocks and reduce weed growth. We recommend waiting 24 hours before driving on freshly re-sanded driveways.

Yes. Many properties on Valley Road, Croft Road, Melton Road and the newer Sharphill Farm developments have substantial driveways well over 100m². We're equipped for any size — our pricing scales fairly by m² so you only pay for the area cleaned.

Not necessarily. As long as we have access to your driveway and an outside tap, you don't need to be present. We'll send before and after photos so you can see the transformation.

A typical Edwalton driveway (40-80m²) takes 3-5 hours depending on the level of soiling and surface type. Larger executive driveways with multiple parking bays can take a full day. Block paving with heavy moss growth always takes longer than lightly soiled concrete.

Mature tree cover along Melton Road, around Holy Rood Church and across the older village core drops organic debris that holds moisture — perfect for moss, algae and lichen. Established drives on Valley Road and Croft Road show 20+ years of joint sand loss; newer Sharphill Farm block paving from the 2010s is also showing first signs of weathering.

We clean every driveway surface found across Edwalton: block paving (very common in Sharphill Farm and Compton Acres developments), concrete, tarmac, resin-bound (popular on newer executive homes), imprinted concrete, and natural stone or original flagstones around the Village Street conservation area.

Yes. If you're not completely satisfied with any aspect of our driveway cleaning, we'll return and re-clean at no extra cost. We're also fully insured with £5 million public liability cover.

About Edwalton

Edwalton is a village located 3.5 miles south-south-east of Nottingham city centre in the Borough of Rushcliffe. The 2021 census recorded a population of 5,774, up sharply from 3,908 in 2011 — a 47% increase driven largely by the Sharphill Farm executive estates near the A52. Recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Edwoltone" with 8 households, the village name derives from Old English meaning "Edwald's Town". Edwalton was historically a "closed village" controlled by the Chaworth-Musters family, whose estate sales on Melton Road in the 1890s sparked a Victorian building boom of prestigious residences.

The Anglican parish church on Village Street, an ancient chapelry that became its own parish in 1739 (split from Ruddington). Internally restored 1881; chancel rebuilt anew in 1894 after the original fell down in the 17th century.
